One notable current promotion is the M&S sale with reductions of up to 50% across selected women's, men's and children's clothing and homeware. MoneySavingExpert reported that its sample of 30 items had discounts ranging from 30% to 50%, with a typical discount of around 41%.

Elsewhere, current deal round-ups include up to 50% off toy sales, along with a variety of food, travel, entertainment and shopping promotions.

Before buying, remember the golden rule of sale shopping: compare the actual price, not just the discount percentage.

A £40 product reduced by 50% isn't a bargain if another reputable seller normally charges £18.
